My Portuguese Camino: 2018

unnamed (1)

I’d not updated this travel blog for a while. Yet, I had done a lot of travelling since starting it. I walked the whole of the Thames Path. I’d driven around all of Ireland and Northern Ireland as well as the Lake District. I’d been to Riga and Stockholm to present papers at Singing Teachers’ conferences. I’d spent a day in Copenhagen and had made plans to see many more places on my bucket list. But I had not kept this up-to-date. I began this travel and adventure blog a few years before my brother started his epic adventure and blog called Tazz Discovers. He sold his house and travelled around South Africa with his family in search of perfect budget family holidays. While he was writing up his adventures, I ran out of energy to sustain writing mine. A huge contributing factor to my lack of steam was that I also did a two-year Masters in Music Education at the Institute of Education (UCL). So finding time to write anything other than on my academic topics was beyond me. Following that – I was just wiped out and was trying to find myself and my niche.

But now, here I am my hand at this blog again and was about to fly to Porto to begin a 230km walk with a friend along an ancient pilgrimage route called the Camino or Portuguese Way. The more famous Camino is the French Way, often beginning at St Jean Pied de Port. This is an epic 800 km through the Pyrenees mountains and to Santiago de Compostela. It takes about five weeks to complete. However, I only had two weeks between terms to walk and loved the idea of walking along the Portuguese coast.
